Equestrian
This year's equestrian competition will be a combination of standard SCA games and trail course elements in a timed event with each rider running the course individually. The theme will be “Pillage the Village” in which each rider will fire two arrows at sentries, lower and cross a drawbridge, smite eight peasants (heads), spear four plague rats and drop them in a well, pick up three animals (stuffed) and put them in a sack carried by the rider, abduct a stuffed ‘wench’ and carry her, and finally, carry a flag representing a flaming torch around the perimeter of the village thereby burning it down! Good fun for the evil barbarians, not so much for the hapless peasants!
In keeping with the battle theme of the event, this competition will count as a war point rather than as an individual championship. Each rider will be required to declare for one of the competing kings. The best time will be used to determine the war point. The winning king will give largess to those who supported him, so choose wisely! Separate awards of great prestige will be given by Fergus Khan to the top scorer in each class. After the main event, if time permits, we will also try something new and fun. It’s a surprise so come and find out. The competition will begin at 10:30 am Saturday and will run until it is done. Riders will have ample opportunity to practice the course before riding for a score.
This year it will be our pleasure to provide a free feast to all horse lords and ladies consisting of Khazar smoked beast brisket, Mongol beans and corn bread, and gallons of sour, hastily fermented steppes ale. We may even make some fermented mare’s milk just for the occasion! All we ask is that you let us know how many you’re bringing so we can plan accordingly.
A handout will be issued to all riders at the gate detailing the EQ camping area, the course layout, and giving critical EQ information such as the phone number and location of local veterinarians.
